She cranes to play friendly match in Gulu

There is excitement in Gulu as the Uganda National female football team, the She Cranes, prepare to make a maiden visit to the town.

The team is scheduled to arrive in Gulu on the December 16 and later play a game with a select Northern Uganda Youth team on Sunday the next day. The game will be at Pece War Memorial Stadium.

Dr Constantine Laum, the interim chairman of Gulu district Football Association, said the game will help them to develop women's football in northern Uganda.

"This region had a long history of war which has affected the development of women football,ˮ he said.

"We hope She Cranes visit will motivate support for sports activities in the region, especially for the women," he added.

Laum appealed to all stakeholders to support female football in the region, observing that many people have abandoned local football in favor of the English premiership and other international football leagues.
