Gulu municipality will also receive sh15.2b under the USMID project as it prepares for city status.

The World Bank is set to fund the construction of 26 toilets in schools and public places as part of the move to boost hygiene and sanitation in Gulu Municipality.

The multi billion project is being implemented by the National Water and Sewerage co-operation, according to Gulu municipality town clerk, Francis Baribanawe.

He said due to the slow pace of the construction, plans are underway for the municipality to take up the construction.

Baribanawe noted that the latrines are to be constructed in poor communities and already activities to map such communities are underway.

He said Gulu municipality will receive sh15.2b under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development Program Project (USMID) project next year to further improve on the status of the roads as it prepares for a city status.

"The private sector in Gulu should become aggressive so it can take up the available opportunities for development,ˮ he said, while addressing a budget conference recently.
