NaCCRI to set up indigenous seed banks

Experts want to give people a chance to choose what they prefer to grow and to eat.

The National Agriculture Resources Researches Institute (NaCCRI) has embarked on setting up community seed banks to conserve the indigenous seed varieties.

Dr Barbra Zawedde, a researcher at the institute, said it is important to conserve the seeds, even as they improve on the indegenous seeds to cope with climate change.

She also said that they want to give people a chance to choose what they prefer to grow and to eat.
