Iganga district to renovate roads

The chairman LC 5 Iganga,Patrick Kayemba during a budget conference held at the Iganga district headquarters today November 27 said majority of the roads had been damaged as a result of the recent rains.

Iganga district local government expects to renovate over 90 kilometers of its dilapidated roads using the newly acquired road equipment from government.

The chairman LC 5 Iganga,Patrick Kayemba during a budget conference held at the Iganga district headquarters today November 27 said majority of the roads had been damaged as a result of the recent rains.

Kayemba said previously the district used to hire road equipment from elsewhere but now the funds will be used to purchase fuel for the equipment to carry out work on the roads.

He said repair of the roads in the district will help  farmers easily transport their goods to the nearest market for sale besides reduce on the hours motorists spend while passing through the same routes.

Kayemba urged sub counties to make programs of which roads are up for renovation next financial year for planning purposes.

The chief administrative officer Iganga,Joseph Maira Mukasa said the district received a grader,water browser,and excavator.

Mukasa said the first set of road equipment's were too costly to maintain during times of repairs or purchase of spare parts.

He said the district will put the equipment into proper use ensure all residents benefited from the donation from government.
