New Vision journalists dominate Population Media Awards 2017

This year’s wards attracted over 75 entries from different media houses. Each of the winning journalists walked away with a trophy and a laptop.

New Vision scooped top National Population Council Media Awards 2017, with Geoffrey Mutegeki winning the Journalist of the year award, while Agnes Kyotalengerire was winner of the Print category.


Winners from others media houses were Benjamin Jumbe  for the radio category, Edgar Batte for online reporting and  Bernard Yiga won the Television category.

The journalists were awarded for their outstanding reporting in population and development issues.   This was during the launch of the State of Uganda Population Report 2017 at Sheraton Hotel Kampala of Thursday.

While handing over the accolades, government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa, commended the media for their great contribution in sensitizing the public on issues of family planning and development.

The ceremony was graced by UNFPA country representative Alain Sibenaler, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, the executive director National Planning, David Bahati, state minister for finance in- charge of planning, and Dr. Jotham Musinguzi, director National Population Council.
