Huawei donates examination equipment to Busoga Kingdom

The equipment will be used by the Busoga Kyabazinga Examination Board in setting and printing of exams.

In a bid to improve on educational standards that had diminished among schools in Busoga region, Huawei Technologies (Uganda) Co. Ltd has donated office equipment worth sh100m to Obwakyabazinga Bwa Busoga.

The equipment will be used by the Busoga Kyabazinga Examination Board in setting and printing of exams that will be distributed to various Primary and Secondary Schools in Busoga with an aim of improving on performances of pupils and students in schools.

The equipment were handed over by the Executive Director of Huawei in Uganda Bennie BAI, to the chairperson Busoga Kyabazinga Examination Board, Owek Rashid Kiswiriri, at a colourful ceremony held at Obwakyabazinga Bwa Busoga headquarters in Bugembe on Tuesday, presided over by His Excellency Zheng Zhugiang, the ambassador of the people's Republic of China to Uganda and graced by Rebecca Kadaga, the Speaker of Parliament.

Kadaga and Zhugiang also paid a courtesy call to the Kyabazinga of Busoga William Gabula Nadiope IV at the kingdom headquarters in Bugembe, Jinja district.

They received State of the art printers (Risography), Computers, Laptops, scanners and office furniture among others.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Kadaga said that among the last 10 worst performing districts in National examinations, six were from Busoga and said that the examination equipment will be used in uplifting the educational standards.       

"This equipment will help prepare pupils and students to be ready to understand questions to be able to answer and practice before the main national exams set by Uganda National Examination Board," Kadaga said.

 Kadaga who is also the Kamuli district Woman Member of Parliament urged Huawei and China's ambassador to create a new relationship with the Kyabazinga of Busoga William Gabula Nadiope IV and the people of Busoga and walk with the Kyabazinga on his journey to emancipate his subjects in the region.

"I also appeal to you to sponsor education every year by at least making sure that out of the 10 sponsored students in China under the Seeds for the Future program, four are selected from the ten districts in Busoga," She said.

She requested Huawei to support the Masaza Cup that are organized annually and asked the Ambassador to convince more Chinese to come and visit the Source of the Nile and other tourist attractions in Busoga adding that Ugandans also visit the Great Wall in China when they go there.

The State Minister for Education and Sports Nasabu Nantale thanked the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga for lobbying for the examination equipment.

Nantale added that the donation was in response to the call by the Kyabazinga to improve education in Busoga.

She said the Kingdom education Ministry lobbied for the equipment through Kadaga and they are to help set up an examination printing facility and an examiners training centre to support government and private sector schools in exposing learners to standard exams / tests and make them competitive with other regions by improving on question approach among other benefits.

China's Ambassador to Uganda, Zheng Zhugiang advised that the equipment be used for its intended purpose to build capacity and improve education standards in Busoga.

Zhugiang pledged more support to Busoga as a means of helping pupils and students in various schools to improve on their performances.

He commended Huawei Technologies (Uganda) Co. Ltd for contributing in supporting education programs in Busoga.
