Spedag commits sh50m to MTN Marathon

Spedag will be involved in providing full end-to-end logistics which among other things involves moving marathon kits, timing equipment and water

Spedag Interfreight, the official logistics partner of the MTN Kampala Marathon, announced a sh50m offer to the event yesterday.

Dino Schmitz, the General Manager of Spedag Interfreight Uganda handed over the cheque at the Spedag Interfreight head offices in Nakawa and confirmed their participation in providing end to end logistical support for this year's marathon.

"It is our pleasure to join MTN Uganda for the third year running in providing logistical support to this special marathon that is well known in supporting charitable causes. This year we have given a total of sh50m, of which sh30m will cater for in-kind logistical services while sh20m is in cash to support the causes of improving maternal health and reducing child exposure to cancer caused by asbestos roofing," Schmitz said.

Spedag will be involved in providing full end-to-end logistics which among other things involves moving marathon kits, timing equipment and water from the MTN warehouses to the different points of distribution, mainly which are based at MTN Uganda and its various service centres and the main marathon route itself.

Spedag Interfreight will also provide transport services for the route survey conducted by Uganda Athletics Federation and MTN Uganda officials.

They also do provide transportation and coordination to the race marshals and race volunteers on the ground.

According to Sandra Kobusingye, Head Legal and Administration at Spedag Interfreight, the company will have 245 of their employees also taking part in the run.

Registration for the 14th edition of the marathon is ongoing and interested participants can pay sh23,000 via mobile money platform by dialling *165*1*5# or sh25, 000 at the different MTN registration centres.

Participants have a chance to choose which cause they will be running for by either opting to improve maternal health or reduce students' exposure to cancer.

Other partners of the event include Stanbic Bank, Huawei, Rwenzori, Uganda Police, Uganda Athletics Federation, AAR and Vision Group.
