CRIME | KATAKWI

A 26-year old woman in Toibong village, Usuk sub-county in Katakwi district has been gang raped by three men.

Stella (other names witheld) said the three men grabbed her as she was returning from Orungo Corner Market on Monday at about 8:00pm. She says they beat her repeatedly and dragged her to a swamp before gang raping her.

She tearfully narrated how her attackers tried to kill her by twisting her neck after assaulting her.

She said she was only rescued by an area resident, who heard her cry for help and flashed a torch in their direction. She said the men then ran away and she managed to escape.

Charles Ejoku, the Police officer in charge Ameritele Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) detach, confirmed the incident. Ejoku said two suspects, identified as Samson Ojune and Noah Omuatum have been arrested and one of them is on the run.

He said they will most likely be charged with rape and attempted murder.
