Woman detained over beating husband to death

Police in Kabale have two suspects in custody for allegedly beating a 28-year-old Roland Akandida to death. 

The two according to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police spokesperson are Edison Aharizira, 24, a brother to the deceased and Jonah Kyarikunda, 26. Kyarikunda is the wife to deceased.

The two are residents of Rwakatobyo in Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale district.

Maate said on October 8, at around 9:00pm, as the late Akandinda came back from his drinking sojourn, he and his wife developed a quarrel.  

Akandinda was badly beaten in the process. 

"Akandinda was later rushed to Kabale Hospital where he died from. Police initiated inquiries and Kyarikunda and Aharizira were arrested to help in investigations.

"Aharizira was at the time staying with the couple," said Maate.

In a related development, Kabale Police has a 52-year-old man in custody for allegedly murdering his wife.

Edison Ntwirenabo, a resident of Bushabira village, Rubaya sub-county allegedly beat his wife and caused her death.

Maate said Ntwirenabo assaulted his wife identified as Annet Kyarimpa, 47, at Bushabira trading centre in the evening on October 10. Kyarimpa later passed on from their marital home in Rubaya sub-county.

"Cases of domestic violence are on rise in Kabale and this requires collaborative efforts to curb down this criminality. The parties embroiled, should seek help from relevant authorities before it is too late," he advised.
