A Uganda Certificate of Education candidate has given birth to a baby boy at St Joseph’s Hospital in Kitgum district, with just days to the official UCE exams briefings this Friday.

The 17-year-old girl got pregnant after she was allegedly raped in January this year, while returning from a grocery shop in her home district of Kabale.

She was consequently expelled from her former school, Namirembe Hillside High School two weeks later, because the school allegedly did not have favorable conditions for pregnant students.

The child mother said she was advised against abortion, which could lead to death.

She had to learn a new language, adopt to a new culture, eat new food, surrounded by new faces and balance looking after her pregnancy and reading books.

She scored aggregate 37 in UCE mock examinations and is optimistic of a first grade in the UCE final exams.
