Brig. Olum replaces deceased Taban in DRC

Olum replaces Brig. Taban Geoffrey Kyabihende, who died in August.

President Yoweri Museveni has deployed, Brig. Dick Olum, who commanded the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) contingent in Somalia between 2013 and 2014 to DRC as Uganda's defense advisor.

Olum, who will be based in Kinshasha, has been until his latest appointment the commanding officer at the 3rd Division in Moroto district where he was deployed after returning from Somalia.

According to the UPDF deputy spokesperson, Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki, Museveni has replaced Olum with Brig. Richard Otto as the 3rd Division commanding officer.

"Brig Otto has been UPDF's contingent commander of the African Union Regional Task Force (AU-RTF) and is credited for defeating LRA in Central African Republic" a UPDF statement reads.

The commander in chief has also sent Col. Omero Tingira Irumba to Khartoum as defense advisor. He has been serving in Somalia as defense envoy. Irumba has been replaced by Brig. Joseph Lucku Kidega, who has been commanding the 1st Division. Previously, Irumba served as the counter terrorism director in UPDF.
