A new four stance block stands majestically in the middle of the compound, some students are busy in one of the rooms arranging furniture ready to start a practical. This is Dzaipi secondary school in Adjumani district.

George Tabi, is the head of department of science recalls how they used to carry out practicals under trees and sometimes in classrooms were they had no apparatuses.

"We used to have a store were we could keep chemicals and apparatuses and it is from the same room were we could have mini practicals and science lessons. In the same room, we used to have senior six classes, even those who were not doing sciences something that posed a challenge," Tabi says.

However after JICA constructing for the school spacious science laboratories things, improved drastically. The laboratories have stores for keeping chemicals, an office for the subject teacher, and all rooms are well-stocked with furniture and apparatuses.

The Japanese Ambassador to Uganda, Kazuaki Kameda, said the construction of the science laboratory was supported by the government of Japan, through Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots human security project.

He noted that the grant signing was in 2015 and the completion was meant for 2017, and indeed it was fulfilled as agreed.

"The school will now be able to teach all the science subjects as required by the government of Uganda in a modern teaching and learning environment," he stressed.

He highlighted that the project cost sh356m ($101,605).
