Opposition warned against holding parallel Independence Day celebrations

The minister for the presidency, Ester Mbayo, has warned Opposition politicians against organising parallel independence Day celebrations.

The 55th independence celebrations will be held on Monday next week, under the theme: Uganda's Freedom must be Anchored on the Spirit of Hardwork Resilience and Commitment. It will be celebrated in Bushenyi district.

Mbayo said they have received information that there are politicians who want to disrupt the celebrations.

He said the country has achieved a lot since independence, especially in terms peace and democratic governance, which need to be consolidated.

She reiterates the need to appreciate individuals who have contributed to the development of Uganda, and said 10 medals will be awarded to persons, including His Highness the Agha Khan, who will be a special guest at the occasion.
