Security has been beefed up at Ngoma Police Station in Nakaseke district following a weekend incident in which the station was raided by a mob that killed two suspects and injured a Police officer.

The Saturday evening raid followed a Thursday incident in which thugs killed a bodaboda rider in Ngoma town identified as Innocent Bayizi before fleeing with his motorcycle.

The Savannah regional Police spokesperson, Paul Kangavve, said that after the murder, the Police mounted a manhunt for the culprits, arresting two suspects who were locked up at Ngoma Police station.

He said that after learning about the arrest, a mob of mostly bodaboda operators raided Ngoma Police station where they overpowered armed Police officers before forcing their way into the cells, killing the two suspects and injuring a Police officer.

He identified the injured Police officer as Sgt. Otim

The LC3 Chairperson of Ngoma town council, Wasswa Ziritwawula said the Police tried to resist the mob by firing in the air, but were overpowered.

Ziritwawula said the area was recently hit by a wave of robberies in which at least five bodaboda riders have been killed.
