Why you need to eat Jack fruit daily

Jack fruit is believed to contain nutrients that can avert or regulate different diseases like high blood pressure, cancer, and diarrhea.

 

Jackfruit or Ceylon jak which is scientifically known as Artocarpus heterophyllus belongs to the family Moraceae. 

This fruit which originated from the rainforests of western India tree grows to about 10-15 metres tall with dark green oval shaped leaves. 

Jack fruit is one of the most popular fruits ranking next to mangoes and bananas in all growing countries like Uganda, Kenya and India. 

It is commonly enjoyed while fresh or dried to make jack fruit chips. Sometimes, jack fruit is processed to make beauty products.

Mzee Ronald Lwetunte  a resident of Matugga says jack fruit has a lifespan of about 70 years. Both the soft pulp varieties (those with plenty of juice) and firm pulp varieties (those with less juice) are grown in Uganda.

In the markets, an extra big jack fruit now costs sh12,000-15,000 from the previous sh10,000. A piece of jack fruit costs about sh500 and sh1,000.
