Mbale Police in age limit running battles

The acting district police commander, Steven Ahweera, confirmed the arrest of two anti-age limit protestors and said they had been handed over to the Police’s political desk to write statements.

Police in Mbale has this morning been involved in running battles with section of ant-age limit activists.

Earlier in the morning, Police heavily armed with canastas of teargas and AK47 riffles were seen patrolling the streets and the situation looked to be calm.

However, all of a sudden, five ant-age limit protestors stormed the streets. The Police was quickly responded and arrested two of them.

Town dwellers then joined in to free those who were being arrested and hide the others. They pelted the officers with stones.

It took Police over an hour to bring the town into order as more protesters started to regroup in small groups of five to ten, planning protests.

The Police, acting on tips, they rushed to the scenes and quickly took control of the situation.

The acting district police commander, Steven Ahweera, confirmed the arrest of two anti-age limit protestors  and said they had been handed over to the Police's political desk to write statements.

"It is true we have them in custody. We cannot reveal their names. They will be required to write statements as we consult with higher authorities," Ahweera said.

Ahweera noted that they are on the alert to stop anyone from demonstrating against the age limit lifting.

He noted that some hooligans take advantage of the chaos to steal people's goods.
