Four suspects have been arrested in connection with raiding and stealing of a gun at Mponye Police post in Kabalagala, Makindye division.


The attackers also caused grievous injuries on one Vincent Kasozi, the officer who was guarding the police post at the time.

According to the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Oweyesigire, the incident happened at round 1:00am after the officer in charge of the police post, together with other officers had gone to patrol the area.

"During the patrol, they heard gunshots and rushed back to check on the situation, only to find Kasozi bleeding. One of the officers tried to shoot at the attackers, but he could not get a clear shot because it dark," he said.

Kasozi narrated how five men came to the station and as he tried to attend to them, one of them  pullout a panga (machete).

He said he rushed for his gun, but the man cut off his fingers and cut him around the neck.

The division police commander, Bernard Mugerwa, is said to have rushed to the scene and used sniffer dogs, which led them to a gate where they found four men.

They have been identified as Timothy Lutalo, Moses Nyeko, Meddy Bale and Alex Kamugisha.

Oweyesigire said they will help the police in their investigations.

He said the Flying Squad unit is already on ground to make sure the gun is recovered.
