KCCA had goalkeeper Charles Lukwago to thank for keeping Maroons at bay

It was expected to be a tough game for Maroons as they marked their return to the top flight with a tie against the defending champions KCCA but last season's Big League champions worked tirelessly to earn a point on Tuesday.

A point aside, it could have been worse for KCCA who had goalkeeper Charles Lukwago to thank for keeping out five goals bound shots from Maroons to ensure that they shared the spoils.

Early in the game KCCA's Allan Okello had the first opportunity inside five minutes to put his team ahead but his chance was not well utilized.

Maroons then took charge with former KCCA striker William Wadri having his two goal bound headers well saved by Lukwago.

Lukwago again had to be at his best to keep out Godwin Kitagenda's effort for Maroons and pull another miraculous save as Pius Obuya went for goal from point blank range.

Maroons Coach Asaph Mwebaze said the KCCA tie was bound to be a tough one due to the fact that they were facing the Uganda Premier League defending champions in only their first game of the season.

"We put up a good show and this result is going to give us the drive to compete in the league fearlessly," he said.

Maroons will next host Onduparaka while KCCA FC travels to Bombo on Saturday to take on UPDF.
