Is Bukalasa the first formal school?

According to Msgr. Henry Kyabukasa, Holy Family Minor Seminary was the first formal school in the country.

Holy Family Minor Seminary, Bukalasa, stands in awesome quietness, in a beautiful rural setting of Kalungu district. The seminary's serene environment is so captivating, even for non-believers.

There are various claims of the first formal school in Uganda. But, Bukalasa Seminary still has the oldest date of all the claims of the pioneer education institutions in Uganda.

Its establishment dates back to 1893.

According to Msgr. Henry Kyabukasa, this was the first formal school in the country.

But other historians argue that it was Mengo SS, having opened its doors to students in 1895; a view which is contested by other historians who argue it was Namilyango College in 1894. Well, get the right answer in New Vision on Wednesday!
