The youth in the Teso sub region have been challenged to desist from underrating to contest in local council elections.

This followed low interest expressed by many youth to compete for such political positions since the road map for elections was released by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Simon Peter Tajar in Acowa Sub County, Amuria district said youth engagement in such competitive elections helps to close age imbalance in politics.

He advised elders to desist from undervaluing the youth in such elections and encouraged them to vote basing on the aspirant's capabilities.

Recently EC chairperson Simon Byabakama urged Ugandans to embrace and participate in the election exercise, appealing to political parties to study the programme carefully given the elections will be held under the multiparty political dispensation.

EC last held LC1 and LC2 elections in 2001.

The election will be conducted by lining up, its date is set for November 21st and the exercise will last 30 minutes before the counting of votes.
