Uganda finishes fifth in Africa motocross championship

Milton Obote Akena collected 15 and 7 points respectively while gift Ssebuguzi managed 20 points in the MX 50cc category.

The motocross team put up a spirited fight to finish fifth out of eight nations in the FIM Africa Nations Motocross Championship in Botswana that ended Sunday.

Acting deputy vice president in charge of motocross in Uganda, Patrick Van Pee said the championship was a learning experience for his riders.

"Yes, the boys have tried their best. We had the numbers but now is the time to go and work on our quality," Van Pee stated.

In the MX Lite (85cc), Stav Orland and Fortune Sentamu finished 10th and 11th overall with 26 and 20 points respectively.

In the MX 65, Alon Orland, Milton Obote Akena collected 15 and 7 points respectively while gift Ssebuguzi managed 20 points in the MX 50cc category.

In the Veterans category, Asaf Natan and Barak Orland managed to collect 33 and 23 points respectively while Peter Pelser had 23 points in the Masters class.

In the MX1, team captain Maxime Van Pee sprained his ankle and didn't get to race but his brother Olivier Van Pee came 11th overall, grabbing 16 points for team Uganda.
