Most people are stuck with a habit of drinking water only when it is either too hot or during meal time. Well, it turns out experts expect more from you when it comes to your water-drinking attitude.

Waking up to a glass of water is one of the many punctuation marks of healthy living, says Julius Isabirye, a nutritionist in Kampala.

You can make it a glass or two as long as it is warm or is at room temperature.

"At the time when most of us are sleeping in the night, there is a lot taking place within our bodies, like metabolism, digestion of food, blood circulation and regeneration of cells," explains Isabirye.

In most of these processes, the body produces waste products, so by drinking warm water in the morning, such toxic products are flushed out through excretion.

He adds that this not only improves the health of internal body organs like the kidneys, but it also enhances the appearance of the skin.

Isabirye says taking water on an empty stomach also stimulates regular bowel movement.

By the time one wakes up in the morning, the body has already used up all the water from the previous day, no matter how much it was.

So taking a glass or two in the morning is a way of rehydrating your body and it helps to relieve you of constipation.

Meanwhile, drinking water can be one of the simple tactics to losing weight, depending on how and when you take it.

"Taking water first thing in the morning starts off digestion, which is proven to fuel burning of calories throughout the day," says Farooq Kyazze, a gym operator in Bunga, in the outskirts of the city.

Water intake feels one up, hence leaving one with less appetite for pointless craving for like snacks all the time.

Irene Nakato, a mother of one, says starting off her day with a glass of water is one way of refreshing and energizing for the new day.

Well, after all, water is life, right?
