It is incumbent upon all Christians to desist from doing evil things like committing murders

Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has condemned brutal murders that have occurred in different parts of the country saying this is a sign of deteriorating faith among people.

Lwanga made the remarks on Sunday while addressing hundreds of Catholics who turned up to celebrate 118 years of Mitala Maria Catholic Vicariate in Buwama Sub County, Mpigi district. 370 children were also inaugurated officially to start taking Holy Communion in the Catholic Church.

He said it is incumbent upon all Christians to desist from doing evil things like committing murders and involving themselves in irreligious things.

"These days we wake up to shocking news of a murder in different parts of the country, this is a sign that people have started wavering in their faith so I urge you all Christians to strengthen your relationship with God by observing the ten commandments" Lwanga said.

Lwanga also attacked Christians who have continued to cohabit and called upon them to go for mass weddings organized by the Catholic Church every year.

"There are increasing marriages that are not legalized by the church. Cohabitation is on rise in this country, I want to advise all those living in such marriages to come embrace mass weddings organized by the Catholic Church" he said.

There was also swearing in of the new Vicariate leaders and they were ushered into office by Lwanga. He advised those that were entrusted with leadership to work hard to take the Vicariate to another level.

On the spate of accidents that have been witnessed on Masaka-Kampala Highway, Lwanga said these have been caused by reckless drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol.

He advised all motorists to be responsible on roads and exercise high levels of discipline when driving on the roads.

"I want to convey my condolences to families of the people that have lost their loved ones in the accidents. We however want to ask motorists to be more responsible on the roads to avoid fatal accidents on this road" Lwanga noted.

The Episcopal Vicar for Mitala Maria Catholic Vicariate Fr. Denis Kizito Ssebunya urged Christians to also emulate the good deeds performed by the Virgin Mary.
