Da Costa positive despite Vipers' defeat to Azam

Vipers coach Miguel da Costa appreciated the performance of his players despite their 1-0 defeat against Tanzania's Azam FC in a friendly match at St Mary's Stadium, Kitende.

"I am happy for this friendly match because it has been a great test for my players. It was very competitive but the performance of the referees was below par," said da Costa.

The visitors won the game through Yahya Zaid's penalty in the 29th minute after Vipers defender Shafiq Bakaki fouled Joseph Mahundi for which referee Aisha Ssemambo awarded the penalty.

Tony Odur, Mousa Mbayi, Ashraf Mandela are some the Vipers players that missed scoring opportunities.

Azam who were in Uganda for a 10 day tour played to five friendly games, winning three and drawing two.

They beat URA, Vipers and Onduparaka 2-0, 1-0, 3-0 before settling for a 2-2 and 1-1 with Uganda Cranes and KCCA respectively.
