Cranes will host Rwanda in the first leg in Kampala on August 12

After taking charge of his first training session as Uganda Cranes interim coach, Moses Basena has said the players need to improve on their fitness.

He made the remarks after team's first training session at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Wednesday ahead of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Rwanda.

Cranes will host Rwanda in the first leg in Kampala on August 12 at St. Mary's Stadium, Kitende before travelling for the return leg on August 18 in Kigali.

"Our players need to know how to use the ball and how we behave when we don't have it. We have to add an element of speed since most players are off season so that they reach the required standards," Basena stated.

Basena and his assistant Fred Kajoba will continue to lead the team through Thursday evening's training session at Namboole.

They took over from Milutin Sredojevic who terminated his contract as Cranes head coach after FUFA failed to clear his outstanding arrears for more than four months.
