Fresh from the Commonwealth Chess Championship, Woman FIDE Master (WFM) Christine Namaganda has joined Rita and William Nkemba's ongoing Journey of Hope campaign that started July 31.

Partnering with Dwelling Places, a Non-Government Organization, Namaganda who has represented the country in several international chess championships told New vision that she felt the need to reach out to the vulnerable children through chess.

"Growing up, I was not raised in the best conditions. And for that reason I understand what the vulnerable children go through to survive on a daily basis, which is why I felt the need to reach out to the helpless children through chess, a game I believe has brought me this far," said Namaganda.

Namaganda, a former Ugandan representative at the 2017 Chess Olympiads, is expected to pass on chess skills to children in schools on her 467km journey to Karamoja.

The player was on Tuesday involved in a chess training session with students of Jinja SS. She will also be giving out a few chess sets to the different schools she will visit.
