Nurse remanded for sedating and raping patient

City Hall Court on Monday charged and remanded a 29-year-old nursing assistant from Najjera Hospital in Nakawa division over charges of raping and impregnating a patient. 

Samuel Tumukuratire appeared before grade one magistrate Moses Nabende who read to him the charges formally but barred him from taking plea as his offence can only be heard and tried by the High Court. 

Prosecution informed court that on June 5, 2017 at Najjera Hospital, Tumukuratire allegedly sedated the female patient raped her. 

It's alleged that almost after three months, the victim found out she was pregnant yet she had taken a year without having sex because her husband was working overseas by then. 

Upon interrogating Tumukuratire he confessed to having raped the patient. 

He has been remanded till August 18, 2017 when he will return to court for mention of his case.
