UPDF chief Muhoozi meets US army Africa commander

Harrington, who led the delegation, applauded and commended UPDF’s role in the pacification of both Somalia and the Central Africa Republic (CAR).

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi has held talks with the Commander of the US Army in Africa, Maj Gen Joseph P. Harrington whom he hosted  at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala on Monday.

Harrington, who led the delegation, applauded and commended UPDF's role in the pacification of both Somalia and the Central Africa Republic (CAR). He noted that there was need for all the Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) in Somalia to skill and equip the Somali National Army with the necessary tactics that would help them protect the sovereignty of Somalia.

According to a release from the Defence Ministry, Maj Gen Harrington, expressed his commitment and willingness to help UPDF fill its training gaps in both Maritime engagements and Air Defence.

Gen Muhoozi, lauded the US Army for its enormous contributions towards the success of UPDF missions, saying that the building of capacity of UPDF soldiers would make the region more stable.

He cited Somalia as an example; and noted that UPDF's role in the stabilization of Somalia will in the long run stop the influx of Somali refugees to Uganda and world over.
