Gov't slammed for inaction over army worms

Over 8,000 gardens of different crops like maize, beans and others were destroyed

Leaders in Amuria district have condemned the central government for failing to honor their request to procure pesticides for farmers following the recent attack by army worms.

Silver Omer the secretary finance and planning in the district said reports were delivered to the central government but got no response.

He added that over 8,000 gardens of different crops like maize, beans and others were destroyed by the army worms.

As he noted, this has made farmers harvest low yields with some not even getting a single harvest yet government is capable of supporting farmers with pesticides.

"There is need for government to respond to the needs of the local farmer to improve agriculture" Omer added.

Many farmers in Teso suffered from the army worm attacks but government hasn't responded urgently which the leaders say is unfair.
