Body of drowned fisherman retrieved

The body of a 30-year-old fisherman has been found, two days after he drowned near Kitinda landing site in Katabi town council.

Eric Nakibinge was a resident of Kitubulu.

He reportedly drowned as he tried to escape from UPDF Marines Fisheries Taskforce soldiers who were conducting an operation on illegal fishing at the landing site on Lake Victoria.

Juma Abdallah, the area councilor, said Nakibinge drowned after a one Yasin, together with other fisheries taskforce personnel, went after him.

However, no fisheries official was available for comment.

Abel Muwonge, the officer-in-charge at Entebbe Police Station  confirmed that the body of Nakibinge was recovered on Sunday evening with several cuts on the head.

He said the corpse was later taken to Mulago Hospital for a postmortem examination. 

Muwonge said police is also investigating the circumstances under which the the deceased got deep head cuts.
