Panthers lost their grip on this year's lacrosse league in a nick of time.

Their desperate pursuit however continues but with just one round of games to the end of the season.

They failed to keep it up the top, bowing to pressure, losing unexpectedly to a poor side in Nile Zulus 5-3 Saturday at MUBS grounds, a terrible blow to their chances of clinching the elusive tittle.

"We really have an outside chance really now but we can only pray MUBS lose their last fixture and we win our game. It is an uphill task I should say" said Liberty Twesiime, a playere with Panthers and also publicist Uganda Lacrosse.

Efforts from experienced Robert Towers greatly made the difference in their rather historic 5-3, which is the second win for the Jinja outfit since debuting last season in the topflight action. John Olokutum, Samson Kayemba and Andrew Bugembe grabbed one goal apiece for the Zulus.

Reagan Ochan, Clinton Watumbe and Liberty Twesiime ensured Panters scored for Panthers whose situation in as far as winning the title is now down to prayers and mathematics.

In the event that MUBS win their last game, Panthers must then win theirs too but still with   at least eleven goals to zero for MUBS boast of an eight goal difference. The two now are currently  tied on 9 points but separated by goal difference in favour of defending champions MUBS.

In the women's category, Maroons made light work of  Gayaza High School 11-0 and MUBS 5-2. The league is set to end next weekend with five fixtures on the card.

Meanwhile National team tryouts are set to start tomorrow at MUBS grounds in preparation for upcoming engagements with the East Africa 7s next month in Uganda.
