Police in Teso has warned members of the public against misusing social media.

The warning follows several cases reported to Police about people who are now using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp among others to abuse and con money from unsuspecting victims.

Michael Odongo the East Kyoga Police spokesperson said Police has so far registered two cases in Soroti and Bukedea districts.

Odongo said Police will not accept people to misuse social media platforms when it is an illegal act.

"People should report cases of social media misuse if a person feels that someone has posted any threatening words or any other thing that makes him not conformable in life to Police so that arrests are made and such a person is arraigned in court," Odongo added.

He explained that Parliament in 2011 enacted a law to regulate social media usage titled the Computer Misuse Act 2011.
