Uganda looks to top World Netball Youth Cup group

Jul 11, 2017

They will go into the match against Jamaica knowing that their opponents struggled against the Cook Islands

The netball Pearls defeated the Cook Islands 52-39 to climb to the summit of Group C at the World Netball Youth Cup with 6 points from 3 games.

With Jamaica set to play hosts Botswana in Gaborone this evening Uganda, have already secured their place in the quarterfinals but still have to play Jamaica to see who tops the group.

If Jamaica go on and defeat the hosts it would set up tomorrows match well because both teams will want to top the group and avoid England who are on course to top Group D.

The winner of Group C will face the second team from Group D and the winner of Group D will face the runner-up from Group C which is why winning the group is important for the Pearls.

They will go into the match against Jamaica knowing that their opponents struggled against the Cook Islands and they only just defeated the Pacific island nation by 43-41.

Against the Cook Islands the Ugandans pressed well and forced their opponents into committing errors.

The team will have to play as a unit if they are to come out on top in the encounter against the Sunshine Girls.

Ugandan goal shooter Zamu Seera along with partner Irene Eyaru were impressive as they played an electric first half which helped Uganda open up the gap on their opponents.

They will need to put up a flawless performance tomorrow evening if Uganda wants to finish top of their group and avoid the likes of England until the semi-finals.
