Sserunkuma to captain Cranes against South Sudan

KCCA striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma has been named the captain of the Uganda Cranes team that will face South Sudan in the 2018 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

The 34-year-old player will be deputized by defenders Nico Wadada of Vipers SC and SC Villa Jogoo's Bernard Muwanga.

Cranes will face South Sudan in the first leg away this Friday in Juba before they host the return leg on July 22. A squad of 25 players has been released to start preparing for the Friday encounter and they will be expected to conduct a training session today at Namboole.

Cranes return to training after experiencing a setback in their last game over the weekend. They went down 1-0 to a Western select team in the Uganda Cranes regional tour at Kabale Municipal Stadium on Saturday.

The winner between South Sudan and Uganda will face the winner between Rwanda/ Tanzania in the next round.

After the South Sudan two legged encounters, Cranes will now face Egypt in August at home in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Kampala.
