The Uganda U19s are if anything but resounding favourites in the ongoing ICC U19 Africa Division One World Cup qualifiers in Kenya.

Two wins in two, the "Baby Cricket Cranes" are taking steady strides towards the Ultimate target of reaching next year's World Cup in New Zealand.

However, in unexpected terms, the high flying Uganda U19s posted 148 in the first innings against ICC Africa U19 Division Two champions Ghana Sunday at the Jaffrey ground. A score that seemed chase able, proved a tad too hard for the Ghanaians who were all out for 116 as Uganda won by 32 runs.

Ronald Opio's half ton of 67 built the foundation on which Uganda won the game. Skipper Kenneth Waiswa, coming in at number five managed 22 in what turned out to be a low scoring innings.

Trevor Bukenya caused more damage to Ghana claiming an overwhelming 5 wickets as Uganada restricted Ghana to 116 in a game where Uganda decided to bat after winning the toss.

Ghana's Rexford Bakum had picked the groove for Ghana who were initially poorly represented by the first three batsmen with the opening pair of Francis Kobla and Alex Osei out for a duck courtesy of Trevor Bukenya who has now taken his tally to 8 wickets in two games. Bakum tried to pick the pieaces with a half century of 51though his successors didn't do much to move the scoreboard when Ugandan bowlers proved tough.

The tournament resumes Tuesday with Uganda facing the hosts Kenya as Ghana entertain Botswana who have lost both of their opening games. The tournament is rather a two horse race between Uganda and Kenya.
