The ruling party NRM vice chairperson for Eastern Uganda, Mike Mukula, has called for unity among politicians in Teso.

Mukula who is also the former MP for Soroti Municipality, said there is need for Teso politicians to be patriotic and work together for the common good of the region irrespective of their political, tribal and religious back grounds.

Mukula made the remarks following scenes that unfolded on Monday during the burial of the late Peter Omolo where the State Minister for Teso Affairs, Agnes Akiror Egunyu, was barred from delivering President Yoweri Museveni's condolence message to the grieving family.

Akiror was denied an opportunity to deliver the condolence message by Stephen Ochola, the former MP Serere County who was the master of ceremonies on the day.

This brought the burial ceremony to a standstill of close to 20 minutes.

Mukula warned that unless the political classes in Teso stop divisions based on political ideologies, development won't be achieved in the region.
