Mwiru says government should re-arrange priorities and stop wasteful expenditure, reduce the cost of administration to saves money for compensation.
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has opposed the proposed amendment in the land Act to allow acquisition of land by government before compensation is done.
The party says this will increase the government’s debt burden.
Addressing the weekly press briefing at the party headquarters in Najjankumbi, kampala, the party’s deputy spokesperson, Paul Mwiru, said although the proposals have been passed by the government, they do not see any good in them.
Mwiru says the government should re-arrange its priorities and stop wasteful expenditure, reduce the cost of administration so that it saves money for compensating land owners.
He warned that if the issue of land is not handled properly, it might be the next cause of revolution in the country. He says the proposals contravene Article 92of the Constitution.
Mwiru said the party’s National Council, which sat two days earlier had approved a budget of sh15b for the 2017-2018 financial year. The council also endorsed an amendment to allow the party president appoint an elders’ committee.
