Mother of seven dies of suspected poisoning

The mother of a two week-old baby in Ooloin Village in Palam Sub County, Katakwi district has died of suspected poisoning.

The deceased identified as Jennifer Akwi, 35, died in her house on Sunday after taking alcohol from the trading centre in her village.

Valentine Akodet, the area parish councillor told New Vision that the death has left people in the village terrified and Akwi's relatives vowing to retaliate against the suspected killers.

"The late has left seven children with the youngest just two weeks old, something so painful to talk about" Akodet narrated.

The LC3 chairperson of Palam Sub County, Emmanuel Ojirot, said the death has shocked the community, noting that locals believe that Akwi was poisoned.

"We have forwarded the matter to Police and believe they will come up will clear results from their investigations" Ojirot said.

The OC of Katakwi district Central Police Station, Peter Oduko, confirmed receipt of information about the matter, noting that a post-mortem was conducted and it showed that Akwi died of suspected poisoning.

Oduko told New Vision that they are conducting investigations and suspects will be arrested.
