MUST begins search for Chancellor

Che Chancellor is a titular head and presides over university ceremonies
Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has started the search for a new Chancellor to replace Prof Peter Ndimbirwe Mugyenyi whose term expires in August 2017.
Ndimbirwe has been MUST Chancellor since August 2008. The university is one of the nine public universities in Uganda.
Under section 30 (20) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 as amended in 2003 and 2006, the Chancellor is a titular head and presides over university ceremonies as well as confers degrees and other academic titles and distinctions of the university.
The Chancellor is appointed for a four year period and is eligible for re-appointment for one more term.
Mbarara has had three chancellors since its establishment in 1989.
According to statement issued on the university website by the University Council, members of the public and stakeholders are invited to nominate persons who can fill the post.
For one to qualify for the post, he/she must a Ugandan citizen, aged 50 years and above. They must be a professional in the field of Science and Technology.
The nominees must also possess organizational leadership in executive or top management roles in either public or private sector and lastly the person should have strong public relations with the ability to engage stakeholders nationally and internationally.
