Man arrested for illegal possession of army uniform

He got the uniform from a senior UPDF officer whom he refused to name

A man has been arrested by the Police in Mpigi district after he was suspected to be behind a group of people who illegally stage fake road blocks and terrorize fish traders in the district.

Edward Kiyimba, 28, a resident of Kayabwe town board, Nkozi Sub County in Mpigi district is currently under detention at Mpigi Central Police Station on allegations of theft and illegal possession of army uniform.

Mpigi district Police Commander, Ahamad Kimera Sseguya said they received reports from fish traders operating mainly on Golo Landing Site about men who disguise as UPDF officers in charge of fighting illegal fishing and extort money from them and at times confiscate their fish.

Police carried out investigations and managed to arrest Edward Kiyimba, a traditional healer operating in Kayabwe. On searching his house, Police recovered army uniforms.

Kiyimba however said he got the uniform from a senior UPDF officer whom he refused to name.

According to Sseguya, Kiyimba has been charged with cases of illegal possession of army attires, impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence.
