This followed alarming cases of drug abuse among teenagers, something the clergy attributed to the parent's attitude of sending children to buy alcohol.

The archdeacon of Usuk archdeaconry, John Robbert Angiro said sending children to buy alcohol and cigarettes inculcates the spirit of cherishing alcoholism as a way of life, inducing them to give a try to smoking or drinking alcohol

Angiro explained that sending children to buy alcohol also damages their Christian values.

In the same development, Rev. Samuel Iberut, a lay leader of Akadot church of Uganda, Kumi diocese appealed to parents to instill good spiritual values in children by teaching them the negative effects of alcoholism and smoking.

He advised parents to desist from the acts of evil and engage church leaders in promoting Christian faith in children.

"Charity begins at home; therefore parents should lead their children by example to protect children from copying up bad behaviors from parents" Iberut warned.

According to him, parents should go to buy alcohol for themselves other than sending children.

However, Jethro Ilaatum, the lay leader at Apuuton church of Uganda in Soroti diocese encourages parents to work together to prevent children from practicing immoral acts.
