Women who bleach are not confident - Nwagi

Ugandan musician Winnie Nwagi has said she prefers her skin colour natural and that she will never lighten her complexion.

When fellow female singer Irene Ntale lightened her skin, many of Nwagi's fans thought the chocolate-skinned Nwagi would do the same.

But according to her, not a chance!

"You see when you use those chemicals, you must stay on them," she said in a local TV interview recently.

"The time you don't have money, you will look like hell. I will never bleach my skin. I love my natural color. Those who are bleaching are not confident," said the Musawo hit-maker.

She made these remarks after a fan called in during the show asked her: "Lwaki tokwaata mu kikopo?", connotatively asking her why she does not bleach.

Nwagi said another reason she stays a healthy distance from skin-lightening substances is that her lover loves her natural skin.

She recently unveiled her lover to the public after keeping his identity a secret for a long time, leaving her fans guessing and debating over who it could be. The two reportedly met during Urban TV's Coca-Cola Rated Next auditions where they were both contestants.
