Muslim brothers from Turkey have supported thousands of Muslims from disadvantage families of Teso region with foods relief.

Teso has undergone a number of catastrophes including wars, floods or drought, and famine.

As an alms-giving organized during Ramadan, the 3,200 beneficiaries who were from the districts of Kaberamaido and Soroti each received five kilograms of packed rice.

The Chairperson of the main Jamia Mosque in Soroti district, Fakir Miro supervised the distribution which lasted for two days starting on Wednesday June 7, 2017.

In Soroti district, the benefiting parishes include Campswahili, and Kichinjaji wards all in Northern Division Soroti town, Opiro in Soroti Sub County, and Epeneti in Kaberamaido district.

Miro said it is concerned Turkish philanthropists who are friends to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Abubakhar Jeje Odongo, who is also MP for Orungo who donated to the needy.

It is not the first time the Turkish support Teso Muslims, last year they donated hundreds of bull, and also drilled several boreholes in the region.

The Eastern Division District LC5 Councillor, Nasur Mohammed asked the Muslim community in Teso to pray for the Turkish for their kind gesture which he says is timely because most people in Teso are faced with hunger. "Fasting becomes tricky without food, and that's why we are thankful to our Turkish brother and the Minister Jeje," he said.

Meanwhile, some of the non-Muslims in the region mistook the distribution to be from Government, because last year some of them benefited from the meat donated by the same people.

"Government thinks that it is Muslims only who are suffering from famine, yet when we the Christians are fasting we are not given any donation. But I'm happy we all eat the meat with Muslims," Melda Apio said, a resident of Kengere ward, Eastern Division.
