The judges observed that Kezaala’s allegations were not supported by any evidence

The Court of Appeal has confirmed the election of Jinja Municipality mayor Majid Batambuze after dismissing an election petition filed by his political rival, Ambassador Mohammed Kezaala.

Judges led by Richard Buteera upheld the decision of Jinja High Court Judge Godfrey Namundi that Batambuze was validly elected Mayor of Jinja Municipality.

Other judges were Paul Mugamba and Alfonse Owiny-Dollo.

The trio has unanimously ruled that Kezaala failed to prove voter bribery allegations against Batambuze and other irregularities allegedly committed by the Electoral Commission.

The judges observed that Kezaala's allegations were not supported by any evidence, on the other hand uncontroverted evidence disproving his allegations exits on record.

"We find that the trial Judge Namundi properly evaluated the evidence on record," they said.

Kezaala accused Batambuze for attending a fumigation exercise in Kimaka Parish and donation of a bull during campaigns to buy sympathy from voters.

"We uphold the decision and orders of the High court and dismiss the Appeal with costs to Batambuze in both the High Court and Court of Appeal."
