Christians seek permission to sue pastor Bugingo

The duo contend that the said actions of pastor Bugingo tantamount to an attack and insult of all Christians who believe in the Holy Bible.

Two Christians have gone to the High Court for orders to allow them file a representative suit on behalf of other believers against a renowned Pentecostal pastor Aloysius Bujingo for allegedly violating their freedom to worship by burning several versions of the Holy Bible.

Veteran actor Aloysius Matovu Kizza and Francisco Evangelist Ssemugooma have filed an application stating that several Christians have a similar interest in court stopping Bujingo from making utterances that hurt their faith but they cannot all come to attend court.

It's for this reason that the duo is asking court to grant them permission to sue Bugingo on behalf of other Christians seeking damages for his unlawful actions.

Matovu and Ssemugooma accuse Bugingo of collecting, burning, destroying and ordering the collecting and burning of different versions of the Holy Bible written in different languages.

The duo contends that the said actions of Bugingo are tantamount to an attack and insult of all Christians who believe in the Bible.

Bujingo, the arch pastor of House of Prayer church in Makerere, Kikoni two months ago was at the centre of public debate when religious leaders criticized him for allegedly burning and ordering the burning of all Bibles that contained the word ‘holy ghost'.

Justice Patricia Wasswa Basaza will preside over this application.
