Ssemwanga: Court petitioned to exhume body

A concerned Ugandan has petitioned court to order Bank of Uganda and A-plus Funeral Services to exhume the body of the late Ivan Ssemwanga and remove all the currencies he was buried with.

Abey Mgugu argues that the currency, believed to be in Ugandan shillings, South African Rand and United State dollars, need to be removed.

"The purposes of the said monies put into the grave were missued and there was wastage of public property thereby violating social and economic rights of other people," he said.

He also wants a declaration that he be allowed to recover the money from the grave on behalf of Ugandans.

He wants the civil court to declare that BOU negligently failed to ensure that the country's currency and that of other countries.

 

Ssemwanga was buried on May 30 at his ancestral home in Kayunga district, Nakalilo village. His rich gang goup members splashed money at his grave.

According to Mgugu who claims to have attended the pompous burial, denominations of sh10,000, 20,000 and 50,000 were thrown in the grave. Currencies of other countries such Southn Africa and US were also thrown into the grave.​
