The Makerere University visitation committee is set to hold a public dialogue on higher education, aimed at addressing critical issues facing higher institutions of learning in Uganda.

The committee, appointed by President Yoweri Museveni in November last year to investigate the challenges that have triggered rampant strikes at the university, will hold the dialogue on Tuesday at the President’s Office auditorium.

Under the theme ‘The linkage Between Higher Education and National Development’, the views from the dialogue which is open to the public, will form part of the findings of the committee.

In an exclusive interview with Dr. Abel Rwendeire the head of the committee, the dialogue is part of the brief activities of the committee.

“This is one of the last activities we are doing and we are also giving the public the opportunity to express their views on Makerere and higher education in general.

We held a meeting with the Senate last week and are set to meet with Council next week for an exit meeting,” he said.

The planned public dialogue comes against the back drop of the committee having finalised its findings, pending submission.
