Makerere remains one of the leading institutions in the world so we must continue keeping it in the lead not only academically

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has called upon the administration of Makerere University to ensure transparency and accountability in running the university's endowment fund.

Kadaga has made this call while leading runners in today's Makerere run which was aimed at raising money towards the university's endowment fund.

The Speaker has noted that Makerere holds a position as one of the most prestigious universities in the world and the fund should be used to ensure that the university undertakes more work to maintain this position.

She has also called upon the university's administration to invite some of the senior alumni of the university like former presidents Benjamin Mkapa and Mwai Kibaki to participate in the university's fundraising activities.

"Makerere remains one of the leading institutions in the world so we must continue keeping it in the lead not only academically but in our vision and in output. As Alumni, we are always looking for ways of supporting the university."

University vice chancellor Prof. John Ddumba Sentamu has also noted that they hope to raise more than 150m shillings for the start so as to support the construction of a students' center.

"All over the world, universities survive on endowment funds. For example Harvard University has over 30b dollars for endowment. So we also want to start this initiative and the proceeds can help us to do a lot of things actually.
