Recruiting more extension workers will enrich farmers’ access to information

Usuk Sub County chief, Daniel Opio, has appealed to government to recruit more agricultural extension workers to boost crop production in the district.

His appeal follows the devastation from the fall armyworm that has crippled crop farming in the district, something agricultural officers blame on lack of enough personnel to equip farmers with prior knowledge to counter such problems.

Opio said recruiting more extension workers will enrich farmers' access to information about farming, hence creating awareness among the farmers about disease and pest control.

George Osege, the Katakwi agricultural officer agreed with Opio and noted that recruiting more agricultural extension workers will counter many challenges that farmers face due to lack of trained personnel.

He explained that the district is burdened with the constraint and that the few extension workers are overworked.
