Mulago hospital to recruit 180 specialized nurses

Appearing before the Parliamentary committee on health, Dr. Byarugaba Baterana, the executive director Mulago Hospital told the MPs that the facility has 865 nurses, with a deficit of 180 specialized nurses.

Mulago National referral hospital is set to recruit 180 specialized nurses as the hospital which has been branded the national specialized hospital re-opens in October this year.

In 2014, the hospital closed down, for refurbishment, to upgrade the national referral hospital into a specialized treatment facility.

Appearing before the Parliamentary committee on health, Dr. Byarugaba Baterana, the executive director Mulago Hospital told the MPs that the facility has 865 nurses, with a deficit of 180 specialized nurses.

"Am going to recruit 180 specialized nurses, these will work alongside our doctors," Dr. Baterana said.

Baterana however noted that the hospital had a shortfall of Sh34b, to enforce the recruitment, during the financial year 2017/18.
